Students Reflect on a Capitol Under Siege
Last week, besieged members of the US Congress barricaded themselves from violence—and experienced the terror that hundreds of thousands of American students have endured.
Teachers have helped students process an event that laid bare for many the irony and contradictions of US democracy: lawmakers taking shelter in the halls where gun control laws are made—or not made.
For some students, there was haunting sense of resignation. “Ha, welcome to public school,” said one high school senior.
