The Resilience of Youth Has Limits

As countries scramble to respond to the pandemic, mental health professionals are warning of an emerging youth mental health crisis, The New York Times reports.
Suicides and suicidal thoughts are up among young people as critical years are put on hold by job losses, stalled social lives, and romantic prospects—and having to move back in with parents. 
1 survey found that French young people ranked lowest in psychological well-being during the pandemic. In Italy and the Netherlands, some youth psychiatry wards are at capacity.
It’s not just young people who are affected: Interim research results from Saarland University show that in Germany, people are struggling even more with their mental health during the current lockdown than they were during the first, Deutsche Welle reports.
