Black Native Americans Denied COVID-19 Vaccines

Black citizens of Seminole Nation are being denied COVID-19 vaccines, pandemic financial relief, and other services—underscoring a long-standing tension between tribal governments and citizens descended from slaves.
They are counted in the tribal census, which the federal government used to allocate CARES Act funds to the tribe. Many Freedmen who have been denied the vaccine and relief funds are gearing up for a legal battle while looking elsewhere for the vaccine.
Freedmen hope the current fight will finally secure the full rights they deserve.
