Nasal Swabs and an Epic Family Feud

Did you know that the US supply of “brain tickler” nasopharyngeal swabs depends entirely on a company run by two feuding cousins in Maine?
US officials didn’t either until they were scrambling for swabs last March. Puritan is one of only 2 companies in the world who produce regulation-grade swabs—the other is Italy-based Copan.
Puritan used to make ~20 million swabs a month—soon it will be almost 300 million.
Would tens of millions of dollars in CARES Act grants—not to mention the world’s reliance on their product—be a catalyst for the cousins’ reconciliation?
More likely the firm’s skyrocketing value will only make things worse.
