Polio Vaccination Team Attacked

5 polio vaccination team members were killed and at least 4 wounded by gunmen early today in 2 separate attacks in eastern Afghanistan, AP reports.
2 of the survivors are in critical condition.
No group has taken responsibility for the attacks, but the Islamic State group had killed 3 vaccination team members in the same area in March.
Attacks on polio vaccination teams have been more frequent in Pakistan (the only other country where polio is endemic). 2 policemen were killed in northwest Pakistan last week as they guarded a polio vaccination team.
The WHO and UNICEF had announced yesterday the launch of a campaign to vaccinate 9.9 million Afghan children under the age of 5 across the country.
