Vaccinated? Mask Up, Anyway

From Geneva to Los Angeles, health authorities are advising the vaccinated to wear masks indoors. But the CDC still disagrees, The New York Times reports.

Rising cases due to the highly transmissible Delta variant prompted LA County to recommend on Monday that everyone wear masks inside—regardless of vaccination status. Although half of its residents are fully vaccinated and fewer than 1% of tests are positive, a rising positivity rate led to the recommendations for the county.

The CDC has not indicated that it’s reconsidering its mask-free recommendations for the vaccinated.

Surges along the Pacific Rim have led to a resumption of social restrictions, including lockdowns in 7 Australian cities and the extension of a stay-at-home order in Malaysia.

A Delta delta: A slightly different Delta variant (B.1.617.2.1) has been documented in the US, UK, India, and 8 other countries, according to CNN. “Delta Plus” was first reported earlier this month by Public Health England.

The best known of multiple Delta Plus variants has an extra mutation, but its effects are still being studied.
