Florida Schools Defy DeSantis

Multiple Florida school districts—including some of the state’s largest—are defying Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ban on mask mandates in schools.
The mask mandate bars parents from opting out unless they have an excuse from a health care provider, CNN reports.
A parent-led lawsuit in Leon County will be heard in court Monday, contending that DeSantis overstepped his authority on the issue—but the State Board of Education still ordered investigations of school officials who’ve flouted the governor’s mask mandate ban, suggesting they could lose their jobs or have their pay docked, Miami Herald reports.
As more Florida schools defied DeSantis this week, President Biden weighed in Wednesday with his own legal threat against governors who “block and intimidate educators protecting our children.”
