The Oscars of Silly Science

Last week: We memorialized a Hall of Fame of wrongness.

This week: We celebrate a category of science best described as “wrong but right:” the annual Ig Nobel Prizes for “achievements that first make people LAUGH then make them THINK.”
Exciting and delighting the GHN team year after year, the Ig Nobel ceremony is something we literally mark on our calendars.
A sampling of the uber-niche topics honored this year:

  • A deep-dive into feline body language
  • Optimal rhino transportation methods
  • A genetic analysis of chewing gum stuck on pavements across the globe
  • PLUS: You’ll never believe what works as a decongestant

We could go on, but we suggest you check them out yourself—and mark your calendars for next year’s winners.
