Rise of STIs

Sexually transmitted infections are once again on the rise in the US after an “artificial dip” amid the pandemic.
STIs are now rising for their 6th consecutive year.
Making the problem harder to track: The pandemic saw 4 out of 5 clinics suspend services or shut down entirely, according to the National Coalition of STD directors.

Slack STI testing and education, changing behaviors as pandemic restrictions are lifted, falling condom use, and a weak public healthcare infrastructure all contribute.

“Bottom line: STIs didn’t go anywhere and they’re going to come right back," said Ina Parks of the University of California at San Francisco.
